This time, football legend Lothar Matthaus has weighed in with sharp criticism, expressing concern over the Brazilian’s conduct.

Second Neymar

Matthaus, a celebrated figure in football, acknowledged Vinicius Jr.’s undeniable talent but voiced disappointment in his attitude. Comparing the young star to Neymar, the German legend suggested that Vinicius’s behaviour might hinder his full potential.

According to Matthaus, while Neymar’s career has been marked by incredible skill, his provocative actions on and off the field have often overshadowed his brilliance.

“For me, he is the second Neymar. He is a great talent but, like Neymar, he stands in his own way. He incites the public, attacks his opponents and provokes with gestures,” he was quoted by SPORT.

The criticism did not overlook the Brazilian’s exceptional abilities. Matthaus praised Vinicius for his pace, technical skills, and finishing, describing them as world-class.

However, he stressed that such talent could be wasted if paired with the wrong attitude. The German urged Vinicius to reflect on his behaviour, suggesting that a more composed and mature approach would better serve both the player and his team.

“Vini Jr. has a great finish, speed, and everything is world-class, but his behaviour is going the wrong way. Neymar is the wrong model.”

Ballon d’Or drama

Matthaus also highlighted the differences between Vinicius and other top players, such as Rodri, who received the Ballon d’Or. He noted that Rodri’s charisma, intelligence, and maturity set him apart as a role model in the footballing world.

In contrast, Vinicius needs to focus on personal growth and discipline to reach similar heights and establish himself as a consistent performer on the global stage.

“The choice of the Ballon d’Or was the right one for me. Rodri has more charisma, and more intelligence. Vini Jr. has to mature, then he will have the skills and the club to become a world footballer,” he added.
