Genoa coach Patrick Vieira admitted he never received a call from Inter Milan president Beppe Marotta.
Speaking to Sky Sport via FCInter1908, the Frenchman addressed rumors linking him to San Siro earlier in the summer.
Patrick Vieira was briefly in the conversation for the Nerazzurri job after Simone Inzaghi’s departure.
However, the club appointed Cristian Chivu ahead of the team’s trip to North America for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
Chivu wasn’t Marotta’s first option, considering they had previously tried to hire Como manager Cesc Fabregas.
Indeed, Inter turned to the Romanian tactician only after Fabregas’ refusal.
Meanwhile, Vieira has never truly been part of Inter’s plans for the post-Inzaghi era.
Nonetheless, the ex-Nerazzurri midfielder gears up for his first full season in charge of Genoa.

Asked whether Beppe Marotta called him to come to Inter, Vieira expertly dodged the question.
“The players who’ve come to Genoa on loan in recent years have done well,” Vieira said.
“We have a club that does a lot for the players, helps them grow, and Genoa is a beautiful place to live.”
“Yes, he knows,” the French coach stated, alluding to Marotta’s time at Sampdoria.
“There’s a group of high-level players, they feel good, and the atmosphere is right for them.
“Did I speak to Marotta? I haven’t, I’ve never spoken to him.”
Meanwhile, Valentin Carboni is on the verge of joining Genoa on a season-long loan without an option to buy.
“The new guys are quality players, they’re important for us,” Vieira added. “We want to be ambitious, even though staying in Serie A will be tough.
“We want to improve in terms of our play and our position in the table – there’s a lot of work to be done.”
