AC Milan have chosen Manica as the architect for their new stadium in the San Donato area, which will have a capacity of 70k. The plan is to start the construction at the end of 2025, a report claims.
Milan have been in talks with the San Donato council for quite some time over building a stadium in the San Francesco area. The Rossoneri have already acquired the land and are now in the final stages of getting the project approved.
According to today’s edition of Gazzetta Dello Sport (see photo below), Manica will design the stadium as well as the surrounding area. The company, which is very highly rated in the sector, was chosen by Milan after beating the competition of 12 other firms.
It’s worth noting that Manica, then along with CMR, were in the running for the San Siro project (see featured image) but lost out to Populous. Per the newspaper, the stadium in San Donato will have a capacity of 70k, two rings instead of three and the biggest screens in Italy, with clear inspiration from stadiums in the United States.
On both sides of the stadium, there will be premium and hospitality seats, dedicated to companies and those who can spend more money to watch a game. There will also be family sections and the seats will be bigger compared to San Siro.
As the newspaper concludes, there will not just be a store and a museum outside the stadium but also a large square (ideally as large as Piazza Duomo) by the main entrance with restaurants, bars and clubs around the entire perimeter. Here Milan hopes to celebrate the next victories with the fans.
Tim Romani, stadium consultant for Milan: “I have been chasing the dream of a new stadium in Milan for six years. CAA Icon and Manica will help us create a world-class facility, up to the great expectations of Milan and RedBird Capital.”
Manica: “We are proud to have been chosen to create the design of the new stadium. We will work to ensure that the outcome of the project is worthy of this exceptional club, the city and all the fans around the world.”
The club’s goal is to start the work at the end of 2025 and play in the new stadium in 2028 or 2029.
