Manchester United’s goalkeeping crisis continued on Sunday as Andre Onana had another afternoon to forget with the goalie to blame for Crystal Palace’s opener.
The Cameroonian has built up quite the catalogue of mistakes in his short spell at the club so far but despite regular mistakes, backup keeper Altay Bayindir is yet to see too much game-time.
In fact, the Turk is yet to make his Premier League debut and only made his Europa League debut for the club a fews week back in the game against Rangers.
While former manager Erik ten Hag hardly afforded him chances, Ruben Amorim has been more open to providing the Turkiye international with regular minutes.
The former Fenerbahce star had made four starts under the Portuguese and played a blinder in the FA Cup game against Arsenal, pulling off multiple penalty saves.
And as per Turkish publication Star, the 26-year-old is not happy with the lack of minutes at United and “wants to leave” and return to his homeland as he seeks to become the national team’s No 1 keeper.
Galatasaray seem to be leading the chase with the Turkish giants set to lose Fernando Muslera once the current campaign concludes and they want Bayindir to replace him.
“After Muslera signaled that he could leave the team next season, the red and yellow team began looking for a goalkeeper for the upcoming season. Galatasaray have already started making attempts for the national team’s gloves.
“With this development, it was revealed that Altay Bayındır was in contact with more than one team from the Super League. It was learned that the closest team among these teams was Galatasaray.”
His future will depend a lot on whether Amorim chooses to stick with Onana in the games to come or if he turns to the Turk at some point.
United have been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel next summer while the head coach is also said to be a fan of academy wonderkid Elyh Harrison.
That could leave the Turkish international with a lack of minutes again and there have been reports stating he is far too good to be a backup.
Bayindir has a market value of €10 million with his United contract valid until 2027. There has been a lot of reported interest in him but no concrete bid has arrived yet. It remains to be seen if other teams enter the fray to drive his price up.
