Manchester United goalkeepers Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir could leave the club before the transfer window closes tonight, a new report has claimed.
Onana and Bayindir were disappointing last season, with both making high-profile mistakes that dearly cost United in games.
So far this campaign, things have arguably gone from bad to worse, with blunders marking their matches against Arsenal, Fulham, Grimsby Town, and Burnley.
Bayindir has started all three of United’s Premier League fixtures, with Onana losing his place in the team. But, Bayindir was at fault for the sole goal United conceded against Arsenal and also didn’t cover himself in glory for Burnley’s second strike last weekend.
Meanwhile, Onana started in the EFL Cup defeat to Grimsby Town, where his mistakes led to both of the hosts’ first-half goals. He fared no better in the penalty shootout, ultimately sealing United’s exit.
Amidst an acceptance that neither Onana nor Bayindir can be trusted to be a mainstay between the sticks moving forward, United are working on signing a new goalkeeper. Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez and Senne Lammens of Royal Antwerp are the two leading names on the club’s list.
Now, CaughtOffside claim that Galatasaray are considering a deadline-day swoop for either Onana or Bayindir.
According to CaughtOffside, “Sources with connections to the agents industry have informed CaughtOffside that Onana and Bayindir are both strongly under consideration at Galatasaray after they missed out on Ederson.”
“However, multiple sources added that Onana’s wage demands could be a significant stumbling block, with Bayindir perhaps seen as the more realistic option.”
The news outlet notes that should Bayindir be the one to depart, Onana would deputise either Lammens or Martinez.
United have yet to make a final decision regarding who they’d prefer to leave between Onana and Bayindir. Should Galatasaray firm up their interest, United will have to act quickly and determine which shot-stopper they are willing to part with.
It has yet to be determined whether Galatasaray’s interest in the two players is for permanent moves or loan arrangements.
