Manchester City embark on a trip to Craven Cottage and take on Fulham in the final fixture of the 2024/25 campaign – one last dance in blue and white for Kevin De Bruyne.
Last time out, City earned a huge three points under the lights in their final home game at the Etihad Stadium this season, emerging 3-1 victors over visitors AFC Bournemouth on Tuesday night.
Omar Marmoush got the Blues off the mark early on in quite spectacular fashion as the Egyptian struck a speculative effort from the best part of 30-yards, which flew with incredible precision and power into the top left corner.
City’s lead was doubled after superb tenacity from Bernardo Silva, who won the ball back just outside the area and played a quick and incisive one-two with İlkay Gündoğan, with the former receiving the ball and drilling a shot low and hard from close range.
Mateo Kovačić gave the Blues a scare in the 65th minute after he was dismissed following denial of a clear goal-scoring opportunity whilst trying to atone for a defensive error. But numbers were soon levelled, as Lewis Cook was dismissed for a poor tackle on Nico.
Despite the chaos, City controlled the game well for what remained of the second period before the aforementioned Spaniard sealed the three points after excellent close control allowed him to get the better of the Cherries’ back line and fire a shot into the far side netting.
However, poor defending from Rúben Dias allowed Daniel Jebbison to grab a consolation goal for the visitors, but it was trivial nonetheless, and Manchester City secured a huge victory in the top-five race.
City’s opponents on Sunday afternoon come into the contest in variable form with two wins and three losses from their last five but emerged 2-3 victors away at the Gtech Community Stadium against Brentford last time out.
In the context of league standings, this game is absolutely vital to Pep Guardiola’s men, and they still need a point to mathematically secure UEFA Champions League football for the 2025/26 campaign.
The Blues sit third in the division, two points clear of Newcastle, Chelsea and Aston Villa below them, and so must avoid defeat to ensure they are in control of their destiny; otherwise, it is in the hands of other results.
For Fulham, they sit 10th – four points behind Brighton in 8th – so this game is somewhat of a non-event, as their aspirations of continental football are now impossible, but there is no doubt Marco Silva will want to give his home fans something to celebrate in their final fixture.

In the last contest between these two sides, Manchester City emerged victorious by a 3-2 scoreline at the Etihad Stadium.
A close-range strike from Andreas Pereira gave the Cottagers the lead inside half an hour before two very similar quality strikes from the edge of the area by Mateo Kovačić gave Manchester City the lead in the 47th minute.
Jérémy Doku seemed to put the seal on things after a stunning effort from the left flank found the top corner, giving City a buffer. Rodrigo Muniz pulled one back with two minutes left to play, but it was not enough, and City had done their job and just about earned the three points.
