Manchester United are reportedly lining up a bid worth around €35m to sign Lecce star Patrick Dorgu during the January transfer window.
This is not the first time United have been linked to Dorgu. Earlier this month, a report covered by The Peoples Person claimed that the Red Devils were eyeing the player, in a bid to bolster the squad for new head coach Ruben Amorim.
In addition to United, Tottenham Hotspur have also been mentioned as an interested party in the Denmark international.
It’s easy to see why Dorgu has admirers in England. He joined Lecce from Nordsjaelland in 2022 in an initial loan deal before completing a permanent move a year later after a string of impressive performances.
Dorgu’s main point of attraction is his versatility. In addition to playing as a left-back, he can also be deployed on both wings.
This term, the 20-year-old has primarily been used in the right-wing position, where he has excelled. Dorgu has managed three goals in the 12 Serie A appearances he has made this campaign – one more than he scored in 32 matches during the 2022/23 campaign.
Journalist Gerardo Fasano spoke to AreaNapoli and revealed that United are set to table an offer for Dorgu in January. According to Fasano United’s pursuit of the player is being driven by Amorim.
Fasano told AreaNapoli, “Manchester United, on precise indication of their manager Amorim, would like to sink the blow on Patrick Dorgu.”
“The English club needs a left wing-back, and the Danes would be the ideal profile.”
“The incoming offer is between €30-35m plus easily achievable bonuses, already in this market session.”
Fasano added, “Napoli could perhaps close at €30m but leave him on loan. Generally English clubs don’t leave him on loan, they buy immediately.”
Other full-backs thought to be on United’s radar include Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich), Milos Kerkez (Bournemouth), Antonee Robinson (Fulham) and Alvaro Fernandez Carreras (Benfica).
