Manchester City are among a number of clubs who “really like” the talents of Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

The forward has become the second of Eddie Howe’s highly-rated first-team squad to be linked with interest from Manchester City, albeit with the player’s teammate being far more likely to be subject to concrete movement from the Premier League champions.

Reports have indicated in recent weeks that Etihad Stadium bosses could intensify their admiration in Brazil international Bruno Guimaraes, with Manchester City especially keen on recruiting in central midfield.

That interest comes as uncertainty continues to loom over the futures of the likes of Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne over the next few months, while Kalvin Phillips is widely expected to leave the club on a permanent agreement.

As the search for midfield recruitment continues in the background, Manchester City maintain their hunt for potential future recruits, whilst holding admiration from afar in a number of other known names from the Premier League, now including Anthony Gordon.

Speaking as part of his latest question and answer session for The Athletic, the ever-reliable David Ornstein has indicated that City hold a level of interest and admiration in the talents of Newcastle’s Gordon.

“Liverpool, like Manchester City and many others clubs, really like (Anthony) Gordon,” Ornstein revealed as part of his response to one user’s question on the former Everton forward.

He continued, “But they (Liverpool) are not expected to pursue the winger because Newcastle have no intention of letting him go and, even if that stance was changeable, the potential level of fee it would take to do business would be astronomical.

“I’m certain Gordon is staying at Newcastle this summer.”

Gordon joined Newcastle United on a long-term contract in January 2023 as part of the club’s hugely impactful revamp following the takeover from Saudi Arabia, with the winger having submitted a formal transfer request to his now-previous club Everton.

Any such future move for Anthony Gordon is likely to take on an astronomical transfer fee, with Newcastle investing an initial £40 million into the Englishman, potentially rising to £45 million through add-ons.

While Gordon is unlikely to join Manchester City this summer, Etihad bosses are not opposed to the idea of securing the services of a new wide player, despite having only recently brought in Jeremy Doku from Stade Rennes during the last summer market.
