Barcelona and Sweden midfielder Fridolina Rolfö is slowly recovering from a foot injury and could yet make a return to the national team before Euro 2025.

Fridolina Rolfö injury update

Sweden’s preparations for the Euros this summer took a hit in their final game ahead of the tournament, as Barcelona midfielder Fridolina Rolfö was forced off the field with a foot injury.

During their Nations League tie against Denmark, the winger had to receive treatment on the field following a nasty tackle by Josefine Hasbo.

Rolfö looked keen to carry on but there was pain etched all over her face as she got to her feet and so begrudgingly she hobbled off the pitch with a bandaged foot.

Although the injury was a concerning one just a month before the Euros this summer, the Swedish team didn’t seem overly concerned about one of their star players after the game.

The initial fears from on the field were that Rolfö may have fractured her foot which would have ruled her out of the Euros entirely.

However this week the national team doctor, Houman Ebrahimi, provided a positive update on Rolfö’s injury.

“The initial examination after yesterday’s match confirms that Fridolina has not suffered a fracture. Fridolina is now heading home to her club team for further treatment, and this is being done in dialogue between Barcelona’s and the national team’s medical teams.”

Will Fridolina Rolfö play at Euro 2025?

It is still too early to know whether the versatile Sweden star will be able to make Euro 2025 in Switzerland this summer, but hopes remain high for the 31-year-old’s availability.

After returning to Barcelona for treatment, doctors found damage to the anterior peroneotalar and peroneocalcaneal ligaments in Rolfö’s left ankle.

The Sweden squad for Euro 2025 is still yet to be announced, so there is every chance that Rolfö could make a return to action before the tournament begins.

Rolfö has played an important role for her country in major tournaments over the years and when Sweden finished third at the World Cup in 2023 she scored three goals in six games.

At Euro 2020 Rolfö didn’t make as much of an impact despite her country making it to the semi-finals, with just one goal at the tournament.

Regardless of how she performs, Rolfö would be a crucial squad player for the Euros with more experience than most of her teammates. The Barcelona superstar is just four appearances away from reaching 100 appearances for her country.
