Best of the Bees

Bryan Mbeumo (£7.7m) scored again in Gameweek 19. The midfielder has now registered nine home goals so far this season, more than any other Premier League player.

At a time when there are very few interesting midfield candidates to replace Bukayo Saka (£10.3m), Mbeumo is an excellent option. The Cameroon international is a consistent goalscorer, with surety of starts and penalty responsibilities giving him an excellent route to points.

Across the game, only Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) and Cole Palmer (£11.4m) have returned more FPL points than Mbeumo this season.

FPL managers were also delighted to see both Mark Flekken (£4.5m) and Sepp van den Berg (£4.1m) return to action. The two will be attractive options ahead of the Gameweek 20 trip to Southampton.

The Spotlight

It was creative midfielder Mikkel Damsgaard (£5.0m) who set up Mbeumo for the opening goal of the fixture against Arsenal on New Year's Day. The Dane intercepted an Arsenal pass, danced past Martin Ødegaard, and drove forward before playing it to his team-mate.

Damsgaard has now returned two goals and five assists so far this campaign. Only Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa (£6.2m) have more attacking returns for the Bees this season.

He has also taken 25 corners and supplied six free-kick crosses, having four attempts on goal from set-pieces. His excellent route to points is something which FPL managers look for when transferring players into their teams.

In addition to his attacking returns and set-piece threat, no team-mate has created more big chances (eight) than Damsgaard for Brentford.

Damsgaard is a focal point of Thomas Frank’s team, reflected by his inclusion in 16 of the last 17 starting line-ups.

Best of the rest

Gameweek 19’s two top scorers belong to Liverpool. It’s taken Salah just 18 outings to exceed 200 points, with the 5-0 win at West Ham putting him on 17 goals, 13 assists and 12 double-digit hauls.

As for Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.2m), his strike came alongside a clean sheet for 15 points.

Meanwhile, the many owners of Chris Wood (£6.7m) and Morgan Rogers (£5.5m) were delighted to see a goal combined with an assist, though the latter picked up his fifth yellow card and is suspended for Saturday’s home game versus Leicester.

In Demand

Wood is the most-bought player heading into Gameweek 20. Over 280,000 of those transfers are to replace the banned Matheus Cunha (£7.0m).

Wolves’ forward will sit out one Premier League and one FA Cup match before returning to a daunting run of opponents - Newcastle, Chelsea, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Liverpool.

Fellow forward Alexander Isak (£9.2m) is also popular. He received the most purchases ahead of Gameweeks 16, 18 and 19.

Isak’s goal in the Magpies' 2-0 win against Manchester United at Old Trafford means he’s netted in six consecutive matches, with eight goals, two assists and 62 points in that time.

Captaincy

Right now, it’s probably best to look no further than Salah. He’s arguably having the greatest FPL season of all time and has 11 goals and six assists from Liverpool’s last eight Premier League matches against Sunday's opponents Manchester United.

Isak could also be tempting versus Tottenham's injury-hit defence. Not only is his individual form superb, but his Newcastle team also has four successive wins with an aggregate score of 13-0.

Alternatively, those still with Erling Haaland (£14.8m) could hand him the armband for Manchester City's home game with West Ham. He returned a hat-trick in the reverse fixture back in Gameweek 3.
