Fowler up for February’s Player of the Month award | OneFootball

Mary Fowler has been nominated for February’s Barclays Women’s Super League Player of the Month award.

It follows a superb few weeks for the Australia international who has scored four goals and registered two assists across our previous four matches before the pause in domestic action.

What’s more, she became the first player in WSL history to register two goal involvements in four straight top-flight matches after teeing up both of Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw’s strikes in our 4-0 win over Liverpool to sign off the month.

Fowler began February with a brace in our narrow 4-3 defeat to Arsenal when she bravely headed home our first of the afternoon at the Joie Stadium before equalising from the penalty spot before the visitors scored late to snatch three points.

However, we responded immediately in the Subway League Cup semi-final against the Gunners and booked our place in the showpiece thanks to the Australian’s dramatic brace.

The 22-year-old broke the deadlock at Meadow Park in what developed into another rollercoaster meeting with the north Londoners who equalised from the penalty spot after half-time through Mariona Caldentey.

City were then awarded a spot-kick of our own soon after, but Fowler saw her effort saved before she dusted herself down to score the winner with a stinging drive from the edge of the area on the cusp of full-time.

She then helped us to a 3-1 win over Leicester in the FA Cup before claiming two assists against Liverpool in our WSL triumph at the Joie Stadium.

It’s been a month full of sparkling displays from Fowler and she’s joined on the Player of the Month shortlist by Arsenal’s Caldentey and Frida Maanum, Everton’s Kelly Gago and Toni Payne and Manchester United’s Elisabeth Terland.
