Former Southampton star and Premier League cult hero Jason Puncheon has made a bizarre career U-turn, leaving his managerial role after only a few weeks.

Nevertheless, Puncheon made an impressive 74 league appearances for the Saints and his nine goals came as a pleasant surprise, considering not much was expected of him before signing.

The Croydon-born player is a cult hero of English football. He has scored in all of the top four divisions in the English football pyramid and he is now remembered for being a Premier League cult hero.

Jason Puncheon has now left his role of Ayia Napa Athletic Club manager. It was announced in a club statement, which came after just two matches in charge of the Cypriot side.

The club statement, released on Tuesday 19 November, read (translated to English): "Ayia Napa Athletic Club announces the mutual agreement to terminate its partnership with coach Jason Puncheon. The board of directors wishes both [Puncheon and assistant coach Tsapatsoulis] the best in their professional careers."

The reason of Puncheon's contract termination is not yet confirmed. However, the club has said that the decision was mutual.

Puncheon only took charge of Ayia Napa at the end of October. Before the recent interim, Puncheon guided Ayia Napa to back-to-back wins, moving up to ninth in the Cypriot second division.

Jason Puncheon now has three Cypriot sides on his managerial CV, in a short space of time. Before managing Ayia Napa, he also went through stints at Peyia 2014 and AEZ Zakakiou.

Of course, Puncheon is no stranger to Cyprus, ending his playing career at Kissos Kissonergas, Anorthosis Famagusta and Pafos. So, it is clear that he is found his home there.
