José Luis Mendilibar was at the helm of Sevilla for just under seven months. Despite this short period in charge, the Basque manager had a certain level of success, winning the club their seventh Europa League title.

Since then, Mendilibar has been in charge of Olympiacos, earning even more European silverware with a Europa Conference League win last season.

The 63-year-old spoke to ElDesmarque recently, and high on the agenda during his interview was his distaste for the modern game, which isn’t his style.

Nowadays preseasons are useless, you play 4 games with the market still open, and some players come or go at the last minute and with almost no preparation, you have to get them in shape with the campaign underway.’ Mendilibar said.

He also spoke about Social Media, pointing out that it all seems good until it is eventually used by people who are overly critical of what they see.

Mendilibar also touched upon the change that occurred as he is now a two-time European winner. When he now goes back to his home town of Zaldibar, people stop him on the street and ask for autographs, when they never did before.

Olympiacos are currently sitting in 4th place in the Greek Super League, in a tight battle which sees them just two points off the top of the table.
