Two Dutch former Liverpool players have shared their takes after Arne Slot was heavily linked with the job at Anfield.

Arne Slot is set to be the next Liverpool manager with just about every reputable source claiming the Reds are in talks with Feyenoord over the Dutchman. Slot hadn't been considered a frontrunner until the last week - but he's now firmly the no.1 name linked with the task of replacing Jurgen Klopp.

So what should fans think? Well, two Dutch former Liverpool players have commented after Slot was linked with the job.

The first was Ryan Babel, who didn't mention Slot by name but made it clear just how big a job this is. Babel believes this is far more than just bringing a coach and some staff to Liverpool.

"Any manager having the desire to take the Liverpool job has to know that it has to bring more than just a coaching staff to the club," said Babel on X. "More than 30 people behind the scenes who Klopp brought in, who were a MAJOR part of LFC success over the years are leaving too.

"Tough job."

Sander Westerveld on Arne Slot

Treble-winning goalkeeper Sander Westerveld did mention Slot by name, however, and discussed just why he thinks this is such a good appointment. Westerveld actually played with the Feyenoord boss and is, admittedly, a friend of his.

"What I think is the best from him is the way he makes players better," Westerveld told Sky Sports on Wednesday. "So he came to Feyenoord and they'd just sold his captain to Ajax and there was no money to spend. Still he said, 'I'll take this team and I'll make them better' - and he won the championship in Holland.

"So it's a perfect fit for Liverpool. The last couple of years the fans have complained about the money not spent, and the big players like City's and Chelsea's, but he's capable of making the players we already have better players. And it's the perfect time as well, we have a lot of potential in the team.

"I think it will be a perfect fit to make them better."

If Westerveld is right, Liverpool are getting exactly what they need right now. A manager capable of bringing the best out of this young, talented, but inconsistent squad.
