One former Chelsea player has been detailing exactly what it was that made the team he played in successful at that time, and it sounds pretty simple on paper.

The current Chelsea squad are attempting to be back to a successful level again this season after the new owners came in and partook in a massive squad rebuild and changing the club from top to bottom.

EXCL: Reece James recovery progress and exactly where he is – is there really a setback?

The last couple of seasons have been hard and many mistake have been made. But it seems that the current Chelsea owners are still adamant that their project will come to fruition and Chelsea will be back at the very top again soon.

But will they ever be as successful as the Jose Mourinho era? I’m talking about his first time as Chelsea manager of course. I don’t know whether anything will ever come close to that again to be honest.

John Obi Mikel was a key cog to that time

What a team this is

Obi Mikel has been speaking about that period on his latest Podcast this week, being a key part of that squad under Mourinho.

He says:

“During my time at Chelsea, everybody knew his job, if you don’t understand, they [the big players] will let you know about it, trust me.

“That’s your f*cking job, make sure you break the play and pass it. That’s it.

“For me, that’s something that made us really, really successful, because everybody knew their job, and we played together as a team.”

Chelsea need this current team to mature now in the same way.
