In a dramatic showdown at the Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid found themselves trailing Bayern Munich after Alphonso Davies opened the scoring with a sublime strike.

Against all odds, though, the Merengues’ persistence eventually bore fruit as they maintained their tradition of pulling off late comebacks to secure victory in the Champions League.

Henry lauds Real Madrid

While the nature of the win has led to some downplaying the victory by labeling it as fortuitous, Barcelona and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has praised Real Madrid’s resilience, highlighting that their ability to stay composed under pressure is what truly sets them apart.

Dismissing any notion that the victory was simply a matter of chance, Henry said on CBS (h/t AS):

“There is no luck in that. It’s called Real Madrid. Period.”

Considering this is not the first time Real Madrid have staged a late comeback in this competition, it is clear that their success is anything but luck.

Henry additionally made sure to give Vinicius Jr his roses, who played a pivotal role across both legs.

Despite no goal contributions in the second leg, the Brazilian stepped up as a crucial difference-maker, constantly creating danger on the left flank and blitzing past Joshua Kimmich.

“He deserves his credit. There were moments when no one from Madrid wanted the ball, except him.” Henry praised.

The Frenchman also shed light on the danger that Vinicius brings to the pitch, saying, “With him, you can’t fall asleep.”

In spite of his past affiliations with Barcelona, Henry’s comments serve to highlight the respect that Real Madrid’s clutch performances command.

Ex-Liverpool man Jamie Carragher, who has been critical of Real Madrid in the past, also expressed awe after their display, acknowledging that their success is far from accidental.

“They’ve done it again. This is unbelievable, and it’s not luck,” he said.
