Former Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky said he is under consideration to be the new Gunners sporting director.
Edu Gaspar resigned as Arsenal’s sporting director on November 4, 2024. He had served in the role for over five years, and oversaw a period of huge progress for the club.
Rosicky, who is currently sporting director at Sparta Prague, was asked if he is close to being appointed Arsenal’s new sporting director: ”So the reality is simple,” he said in a recent interview with Flashscore.
“My connection with Arsenal is natural because I spent 10 years there, and when you spend 10 years somewhere you form a strong, very strong bond.
“So I have this strong bond with Arsenal and I have a strong bond with Sparta Prague. Those are the two clubs that I love football-wise because I have a warm relationship with them. I am honoured by the fact that I am even being considered by Arsenal’s management, but I can’t say that I have any offer to go to Arsenal.”
He expanded: “I’m aware that I’m on their radar or I figure in their considerations in some capacity, but I haven’t received any offer.”
Interim sporting director Jason Ayto has filled the role since Edu left.
The Brazilian joined the club in 2019 as the technical director and became sporting director in 2022, before leaving to join Evangelos Marinakis’ group of clubs, which includes Nottingham Forest, Olympiacos, and Rio Ave.
He said it was “an incredibly hard decision to make” to leave Arsenal, having overseen Arsenal’s recruitment of players such as Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, and Ben White.
Rosicky also spoke about his relationship with Mikel Arteta : “We were good teammates, and we spent quite a bit of time together, but it’s not like we are calling each other.
“It’s not like we are best friends, I think we’re great colleagues and we had a great time together. We’re always happy to see each other when there’s an opportunity.”
