There is a rumour doing the rounds on social media regarding Brendan Rodgers leaving Celtic. According to some, the Irishman is a target for Tottenham Hotspur, and he will soon to be taking the reins in North London…

It makes for an interesting rumour during a break in club football due to international commitments, but it’s one that’s been clearly made up by someone somewhere deep in cyberspace who has a vivid imagination and a big blue nose.

Ange Postecoglou eyeing Europa League triumph

For one thing Ange Postecoglou is very much still in charge of Spurs, and there is no indication that the English side plan to dismiss the Aussie while his side are still in the Europa League, and more importantly, Celtic will be unwilling to let their manager go at such a vital stage of the season, if indeed any such rumour happened to be true.

Brendan won’t make the same mistake again

Yes, Brendan has previous of leaving us at a time when we needed him, but I very much doubt he would do so again. He said he would see out his deal when he signed on for a second spell, and I for one believe him. Brendan knew that he caused hurt with the way he left the first time and will not repeat that mistake again. He had more reason to leave than was appreciated at the time as anger and disappointment took over.

Celtic got £7.5m in compensation from Leicester City, the board gave Neil Lennon the job and all the fall-out was directed at Rodgers rather than those he was in dispute with over transfer matters and so on, including of course the current Aston Villa captain.

Brendan will leave again one day, but not at the moment. He will be doing his upmost best to win yet another treble, before further strengthening us in the summer as we aim to improve for the challenges ahead. He will also be at Celtic next season as he wants to establish the club back at Champions League level and has made progress at doing just that over the past two seasons.

Brendan Rodgers here for five in a row

Brendan might not be here for ten in a row but he is here for the time being and will see out his three year contract at least. The ball is in Dermot Desmond’s court to discuss what it would take for Brendan Rodgers to sign a new deal. Money talks, transfer budgets, retaining top stars just a little bit longer and his own salary package given his success. Celtic can afford all of this and at some stage the two Irishmen will discuss where they are going together beyond Brendan’s current deal.

Wishful thinking from the deluded

If Celtic match his ambition he’ll have no reason to leave. Brendan is currently correcting his own Celtic legacy and that means a great deal to him.

Him leaving Celtic is only wishful thinking from our envious rival supporters who have had their afternoon in the sun but will be nowhere when the honours are handed out over the next few months.
