Florian Wirtz scored his first Liverpool goal as the Premier League champions recovered from a goal down to beat Yokohama F. Marinos 3-1 in Japan.
The club’s pre-season tour of Asia continued against the J-League side on Wednesday. Arne Slot named a strong starting side with Hugo Ekitike debuting for the Reds in attack.
After a goalless opening period. Yokohama took the lead through Asahi Ueneka’s goal on 54 minutes.
Liverpool were behind for just six minutes, however, as Wirtz opened his account for the club. The German – who joined from Bayer Leverkusen in a £116m British record deal – levelled the contest with a well placed finish.
Slot’s side earned the win through two teenage talents. Trey Nyoni stretched to meet Jeremie Frimpong’s dangerous cross to put Liverpool ahead, before Rio Ngumoha continued his eye-catching pre-season campaign with the third.
The winger drove forward from just inside the Yokohama half before firing in a low finish for an excellent individual goal.
Liverpool next face Athletic Club at Anfield in their final pre-season game, before meeting Crystal Palace in the Community Shield on August 10th.
