“Scandalous and unheard of.” Those were the words from Feyenoord spokesman Raymond Salomon regarding Al Nassr’s treatment of David Hancko. Voetbal International’s Martijn Krabbendam recapped the whole fiasco.

Hancko already had a personal agreement with Al Nassr when Feyenoord accepted a transfer bid from the Saudi outfit. Feyenoord’s board also signed off on the upcoming deal. Thinking everything was now completely settled, Hancko terminated his lease on his apartment in Rotterdam.

At Al Nassr’s request, the Slovakian flew to the club’s training camp in Austria. However, that’s where the problems began. Hancko wasn’t welcomed at the players’ hotel. It also immediately became clear that he wasn’t expected at the training ground. He waited in a nearby hotel to see what arrangements had been made until he was informed today that the club were cancelling his visit.

Hancko will report to Feyenoord today, which have set up training camp in Grassau, in southern Germany. There, he will be reunited with the players and coaching staff he had already said goodbye to. Manager Robin van Persie has already indicated that he will welcome his captain back with open arms.

Al-Nassr’s actions have even more consequences. Feyenoord were close to signing Rav van den Berg from Middlesbrough, but recent developments seem to have put that deal on hold.
