Liverpool find themselves at a familiar crossroads in this transfer window. A major European club has turned its attention to one of the Reds’ most dangerous attacking threats, and this time it is Bayern Munich circling Luis Diaz.
The latest update comes from Fabrizio Romano via X, who reported, “Luis Diaz maintains his plan to leave Liverpool with FC Bayern set to bid again very soon. Bayern want to improve their proposal after €67m [£58m] rejected as they keep negotiating also for Woltemade. Barcelona remain in contact with Lucho’s agents while Bayern can spend more.”
Diaz’s future at Anfield has been cast into doubt ever since Christian Falk of Bild first revealed the Colombian’s desire to depart, with Bayern seeing multiple bids rejected. Liverpool are believed to value their number 7 at €80m (£69.2m), a price Bayern have so far failed to meet.
Yet with personal terms reportedly agreed between the player and the Bundesliga side, and interest from Barcelona still simmering, pressure on Liverpool’s resolve is growing.

Bayern’s last proposal, reportedly around £58m, was swiftly turned away. It’s no secret that Liverpool under Fenway Sports Group have set a clear benchmark for their man, and they are unlikely to accept anything less. While an £11m gap remains between the bid and the valuation, that margin is hardly insurmountable.
The question now is whether Bayern will test Liverpool’s limits with a significantly improved offer, or continue with incremental proposals that fail to satisfy the club’s expectations.
With Diaz under contract and no release clause to activate, Liverpool remain in a strong negotiating position. However, a determined player and a keen buyer often combine to create momentum that even the most resolute clubs struggle to resist.
In footballing terms, Diaz’s loss would be considerable. The Colombian scored 17 goals last season and consistently demonstrated the ability to turn tight games in Liverpool’s favour. His form under Arne Slot, while yet to fully unfold, could be central to the Reds’ aspirations to retain their Premier League crown.

Slot may be preparing tactically for a possible exit, but any departure would leave a clear void in terms of flair, directness and drive. The club’s recruitment strategy would need to respond immediately and decisively, should the Colombian depart.
Fabrizio Romano’s update also included mention of Barcelona, who “remain in contact with Lucho’s agents.” While the Catalans are unlikely to match Bayern financially at present, their persistent interest keeps another option on the table.
The lure of the Bundesliga champions and the prospect of playing under Vincent Kompany appears strong for Diaz, but Liverpool will decide what value reflects both the player’s importance and their ambition.
Until Bayern match that value, there is little incentive to move quickly.
For Liverpool fans, this situation cuts deep. Luis Diaz has become one of the team’s most important players, not just for his goals but for his energy, spirit and sheer unpredictability on the ball. Watching him link up with the likes of Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo has often been a joy, and losing him feels like losing part of the soul of this team.
Arne Slot might be ready to adapt, but supporters will want to see the club stand firm. If Diaz wants to leave, then so be it. But Liverpool must not be bullied into accepting a deal that undervalues him. This is not a fire sale. This is a top-level attacker still in his prime, and any sale must reflect that.
Ideally, Diaz stays. But if he goes, the club must reinvest wisely, and promptly. The message from fans is clear: get the money you deserve, or keep the player. There is no middle ground.
