Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has put out what he knows on whether Chelsea will sign a new centre back this window.

Obviously this is because current centre back Levi Colwill has just been confirmed to have had surgery after suffering an ACL injury and will now be out for the long term.

A report soon came out shortly after this news saying that Chelsea were now considering signing another new centre back this window to cover this injury.

But just moments after that report came out, Romano put what he knows out on it, and it’s not good news at all for those Chelsea fans who fully believe the club need to add another centre back to the ranks.

Chelsea not replacing Colwill

Astonishingly, according to Romano at least, Chelsea are not looking to sign another new centre back to replace Colwill.

He posted on X last night:

“Chelsea have not activated any immediate ‘emergercy plan’ to sign new centre back after Levi Colwill injury.

“Club has full trust in current squad, also with Jorrel Hato joining last week and able to play at CB/LB.”

This will be a HUGE mistake

I think Chelsea needed a new centre back anyway because Wesley Fofana is not reliable and hugely injury prone, Benoit Badiashile isn’t good enough, and Jorrel Hato is still very young and raw and also more of a left back than a centre back. They could use Renato Veiga there I guess but there’s been issues there.

Even before Colwill got injured I think Chelsea needed to add a certain dominating and more experienced profile at the back. So this would be a massive mistake not to sign one now Colwill is injured.
