Bayern Munich are quickly discovering that signing Theo Hernandez from AC Milan to replace Alphonso Davies will not be as simple as they hope.
While Theo prepares to take on Slavia Praha with Milan in the first leg of the Europa League last 16 at San Siro tomorrow night, something he will likely do with the captain’s armband on, his future beyond this season has become the subject of speculation.
Reports are growing suggesting that Bayern Munich are lining up a big-money bid for the Frenchman, given they are preparing to lose Alphonso Davies. In general, it seems that Milan face a battle to keep their stars with Rafael Leao and Mike Maignan also in demand.
Speaking in his Daily Briefing column for CaughtOffside, Fabrizio Romano gave his take on the Theo to Bayern rumours and mentioned that it would take a world record fee to convince Milan to sell.
“One final point on Bayern – Alphonso Davies remains a target for Real Madrid as long as the price is right. But what about potential replacements for Bayern at left-back?
“Bayern have been monitoring Theo Hernandez for years, but at the moment they haven’t made contact with AC Milan or with his agents. So nothing is really concrete yet and we should respect Milan on this one.
“Hernandez is a crucial player for them, and any club should pay really big big money, probably a record fee for a left-back in case they want to try for him. This is not something that would be ‘easy’ at all.”
Theo Hernandez is one of the stars of this Milan side and is among the best in the world in his position, and we unpacked his situation during a recent feature, looking at his asking price, renewal situation and potential replacements.
