Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that there will be no issues with Matthijs de Ligt’s contract at Manchester United due to how keen he is for a deal to occur.

Erik ten Hag’s side had a disastrous season defensively, conceding an obscene number of goals and chances and suffering an incredible series of injuries to key defenders.

Naturally, the club has made signing a centre back or two a priority in the summer window and they have seen a bid rejected for Jarrad Branthwaite. There is still a possibility United will make another move for the defender later in the window.

Nonetheless, the club’s focus has clearly shifted to De Ligt as numerous reliable reports have stated that the Bayern Munich defender is happy to move to Old Trafford and that Bayern Munich are prepared to sell the player for a price they consider reasonable.

In his Daily Briefing, Fabrizio Romano has once again confirmed that the towering centre back has given the green light to a move to United and that his agent Rafaela Pimenta is currently working on the deal with United.

The transfer guru explained, “at the moment, De Ligt is only negotiating with Man United, there are no other clubs involved at the moment because his full focus is on a potential move to Old Trafford.”

“I can guarantee that the contract is not going to be a problem. Man United know De Ligt is on a big salary at Bayern, but also that he’s keen on the move and won’t create an issue there, so personal terms are being negotiated and are advancing.”

De Ligt’s clear excitement for a move and flexibility on his contract has certainly provided a major boost for United’s pursuit of the player in a summer where PSR restrictions are still relevant despite the passing of the 30th of June deadline which marks the start of a new financial year for clubs.

It was relayed here yesterday that De Ligt was content to take a pay cut to force through a move to England.

As personal terms will seemingly not be a problem, it is only the transfer fee with Bayern Munich that could stop a deal from happening.

Romano reports, “United will try to be creative in negotiations with Bayern, who want around €50m for De Ligt. United could try offering something more like €35-40m with add-ons to try a different structure of the deal, let’s see if it’s going to be successful.”

With the arrival of Dan Ashworth as sporting director finally being concluded, Ineos will be keen to make swift progress on deals to demonstrate the success of their new sporting structure from the get-go.
