Rodrygo Goes’ future has been one of the major topics of discussion at Real Madrid in recent weeks, with the forward being linked with a departure.

After all, the 24-year-old has seen his importance in the team decline since the turn of the year – first under Carlo Ancelotti and now with new manager Xabi Alonso at the helm.

Rodrygo barely featured in the FIFA Club World Cup and did not play a single minute in Real Madrid’s La Liga opener against CA Osasuna.

Given the situation, the Brazilian has attracted interest from clubs in England. However, he has remained firm on wanting to stay at Real Madrid thus far.

Rodrygo set for a new role under Xabi Alonso

Now, according to ESPN’s Rodra, Rodrygo is set for a new role in Xabi Alonso’s Real Madrid – the Brazilian will now be counted as a left-winger.

Furthermore, the report states that the attacker is likely to get some minutes under his belt when the Spanish capital giants take on Real Oviedo this Sunday night.

For the majority of his time at the club, Rodrygo has played on the right flank while filling in as a centre-forward or on the left wing whenever required.

However, the 24-year-old has maintained that he performs best on the left side of the attack, and as such, asked Alonso to put him in that role.

It appears that the Real Madrid boss has accepted Rodrygo’s request, and the Brazilian’s new position will be that of a left winger moving forward.

With Alonso having players like Brahim Diaz and Franco Mastantuono as options on the right flank, he can afford to move Rodrygo to the left, where Vinicius Jr. has been far from his best in some time.
