Callum Doyle is on the radar of many Championship clubs heading into the final few weeks of the summer transfer window...

Wrexham are interested in signing Man City defender Callum Doyle, but they face stiff competition from a trio of Championship clubs for his services, Football League World has been exclusively informed.

The Red Dragons got their 2025-26 second tier campaign - their first in 44 years - underway with a tough trip to relegated Southampton at St Mary's Stadium on Saturday afternoon, and they were downed by two incredibly late second half stoppage time goals in a 2-1 defeat.

Phil Parkinson has been able to invest heavily into his squad following a second-placed finish in League One last season, with the likes of Kieffer Moore, Lewis O'Brien, Conor Coady and Liberato Cacace coming in for seven-figure fees, and ex-England international Coady could be added to at the back by another ambitious recruit if the North Wales outfit get their way.

Wrexham interested in Man City defender Callum Doyle

FLW has been told that Wrexham are well and truly in the hunt for the services of Callum Doyle, who is on the fringes of the Man City first-team after four straight seasons away on loan from the Etihad Stadium.

The 21-year-old came through the City academy and since 2021, he has taken in loan spells at Sunderland, Coventry City, Leicester City and Norwich City without playing a single competitive first-team match for his parent club.

Doyle still has two years remaining on his contract with Pep Guardiola's side, but reports from The Athletic have suggested that they are willing to sell the young defender for around the £10 million mark, having turned down an offer from Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim already.

The same report claimed that a Championship club could take Doyle on loan with an option or obligation to buy, and FLW now understands that Wrexham have entered the running in their bid to add more defensive power to their ranks.

Doyle would provide a left-footed option in Parkinson's back three, having started with three right-footers in Max Cleworth, Coady and Lewis Brunt against Southampton, with Thomas O'Connor the only player who can provide balance on the left-hand side - although he was not in the squad for the clash with the Saints.

Norwich City, Leicester City and Coventry City lurking in Callum Doyle chase

Wrexham aren't alone in their interest of Doyle, with three clubs who have already had a taste of what Doyle has to offer keen to re-unite with the England youth international in the final few weeks of the summer transfer window.

Coventry City, Leicester City and Norwich City are all interested in a second deal to bring Doyle to their respective clubs, and they are all three teams that he's spent time with since the start of the 2022-23 season.

Doyle was a mainstay in the Sky Blues' team that reached the Championship play-off final in 2023, but he had less luck at their rivals Leicester the following season, with a knee injury ruling him out for a number of months and when he returned, he had to share game-time at left-back with James Justin.

Last season, Doyle played 40 times in the Championship for Norwich, and they are keen to strike a fresh deal to bring him back to Carrow Road, with Coventry and Leicester also lurking in regards to potential transfer deals too.
