Plymouth Argyle are eyeing up a move for Burton Albion striker Rumarn Burrell, FLW understands.
Plymouth Argyle are eyeing up a move for Burton Albion striker Rumarn Burrell, Football League World has exclusively been informed.
The Pilgrims are preparing for life back in League One next season, after just falling short in their Championship survival bid despite a valiant effort in the final weeks of the campaign.
Argyle - who are now under the management of Tom Cleverley - have already been busy on the recruitment front this summer, with a host of new additions such as Bradley Ibrahim, Owen Oseni, Caleb Watts and Jamie Paterson all arriving at Home Park.
The Brewers, on the other hand, are heading into 25/26 with renewed optimism, as Gary Bowyer helped steer the club to third tier safety last term, and will now be looking to start progressing back up the table next year.
The 24-year-old centre-forward only signed for Albion last summer, joining on a free transfer after having spent a season with Scottish League One side Cove Rangers.
A Jamaica international, Burrell penned a three-year contract with the Brewers last summer, meaning he's contracted at the Pirelli Stadium until the summer of 2027.
A Grimsby Town academy graduate, Burrell would soon earn a move to Championship side Middlesbrough in the summer of 2019, signing a three-year contract at the Riverside.
The majority of his three years on Teesside were spent either out on loan, having stints with Bradford City and Kilmarnock, or in Boro's academy system, in which he scored 14 times in 33 appearances.
Burrell eventually left Middlesbrough in 2022, signing for then-Scottish League One outfit Falkirk, but he only spent one season with them before moving to Cove Rangers in the summer of 2023.
Likewise, it would be just one highly fruitful year with The Toonsers before Burton snapped him up last summer.
Having already lost two excellent forward players in Mustapha Bundu and Ryan Hardie respectively this summer, Cleverley knows he desperately needs to sharpen his Plymouth sides' cutting edge in attack this summer.
Owen Oseni's arrival adds a striker to his ranks, but the 22-year-old is unproven in the EFL, having scored goals for various non-league sides, before going goalless in 10 Scottish Premiership appearances for St. Mirren in the second half of last season.
Therefore, the addition of a centre-forward in the shape of Burrell, who has just bagged 11 goals in 34 appearances at third tier level for Burton last term, would surely be a welcome addition to the squad.
At 24, and a full international with Jamaica, he looks to have the potential of being a player who could play at a higher level in the near future, and so he could become a cornerstone piece of Cleverley's plans at Home Park.
