Speaking exclusively with FLW, Don Goodman has been discussing Jamie Vardy's next steps following his Leicester City exit.
Jamie Vardy has played his last game for Leicester City ahead of becoming a free agent this summer, with links to Crystal Palace surfacing ahead of the transfer window.
The 38-year-old striker capped off his Foxes career with a 200th goal on his 500th appearance, on the same weekend Palace secured FA Cup victory, their first major trophy.
Complimentary reports from Football Insider and David Ornstein have confirmed that Vardy is of interest to the Eagles, who are keen to increase their squad depth ahead of securing Europa League football next season.
Football League World spoke exclusively with Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman to ask if Crystal Palace would be a good next step for Jamie Vardy.
“I think the big thing with regards to Jamie Vardy is where does he want to be?” Goodman told FLW.
“Does he want to be at a club where he’s going to play most weeks, week in week out, or does he want to be at a Premier League club where likely he will be probably an impact substitute?
“The choice remains his, because there’s no doubt he still has the ability to score goals at the highest levels.
“So, Crystal Palace, he would be excellent. Leeds - he’s been linked with - would be excellent in terms of being a goal threat, probably by way of being an impact player from the bench.”
Jamie Vardy’s final appearance in Leicester blue may have signalled the end of an era, but speculation around his next chapter shows his story is far from over.
With Crystal Palace leading the domestic race for his signature and Valencia reportedly entering the fold, the 38-year-old finds himself at the centre of a fascinating summer transfer narrative.
Palace can offer Europa League football and a chance to remain in the Premier League spotlight, while Valencia present a left-field but intriguing opportunity to experience La Liga before retirement - under a manager in Carlos Corberan who knows his strengths well from West Brom and Leicester’s parallel Championship campaigns last season.
Vardy has made clear he isn’t ready to drop to the Championship, and his nine-goal haul this season proves he still has sharpness to offer.
Yet as he weighs up options ranging from Selhurst Park to the Mestalla, the question remains as to whether he should chase a final adventure abroad or stay close to home where his reputation is already cemented.
As Goodman noted, the decision lies with Vardy. Whether he opts for impact minutes in Europe, a fresh Spanish challenge, or a swansong on familiar ground, it remains certain that this story will be integral in the summer transfer window’s moving parts.
