Chelsea will sign a striker this summer, we’re sure of it.
They kept their powder dry last summer, just picking up the young and raw Marc Guiu. And now they’re paying the price – with number one choice Nicolas Jackson out, they’ve been forced to move Pedro Neto up top, having experimented with a few different alternatives and discovered that Christopher Nkunku simply can’t cut it as a number 9 in the Premier League on his own.
The sporting directors gambled on Jackson staying fit for a second consecutive season and lost. They can’t take that risk again – the question will just be who they end up bringing in.
Of course they would love to keep it cheap and cheerful with another youngster, but the fact that their last few investments up top (Guiu and Deivid Washington) have proved so far from the level to contribute right away has probably shown them the reality that they need someone a bit more battle-tested.
The usual names come up time and again – Victor Osimhen, Viktor Gyokeres, Benjamin Sesko. Osimhen seemed an impossible move a year ago given his price tag, but Napoli’s failure to sell him has seen the huge figures attached to him previously come tumbling down.

CaughtOffside today claim that Arsenal, who are in a similar situation to Chelsea in terms of striker chasing, are going to meet with the Nigerian’s agent to try and scope out his demands ahead of the summer.
However their piece also claims that Chelsea and PSG remain in the mix. With a €75m release clause reported, Osimhen is by no means out of the Blues’ reach, even if they would have to change their age policy if they want to bring in the 26 year old.
