Callum McGregor was excellent as Celtic beat RB Leipzig during the week. The Scottish Champions picked up three vital Champions League points thanks to goals from Nicolas Kühn and a strike from Reo Hatate. There were a number of top performers for Brendan Rodgers’ side but the skipper was worthy of noting.
A Twitter user, @StewartRoss89, has pulled together a compilation from the game that shows just how good McGregor was during the game – capturing his technical abilities but also his in-game IQ.
McGregor was sensational throughout the game and he could’ve easily been the Man of the Match. The skipper’s ability to take the ball under pressure and play out and set the tempo across the team is invaluable to Brendan and his teammates. His absence is felt when he doesn’t play and this performance proves that he can cut it at Europe’s top table.
There had been snide remarks on social media with some in the press questioning McGregor after the defeat in Dortmund. However, against a top level Bundesliga side, the 31-year-old shone in the middle of the park, showing class and leadership for Celtic.
The club are benefitting from the decision of McGregor to call time on his international career. There appears to be more management to his game time, which allows him to maximise his output in the games he plays.
