Josep Martinez is aiming to prove that he is the future of Inter Milan with a start in this evening’s Coppa Italia clash with AC Milan.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Goalkeeper Josep Martinez has started all of Inter’s matches in the Coppa Italia so far this season.
The former RB Leipzig keeper started against Udinese in the round of sixteen, Lazio in the quarterfinals, and then in the first leg of Inter’s semifinal tie against AC Milan.
And Martinez will keep his place this evening. Inter take on the Rossoneri in the second leg of the semifinal tie, with the first having ended 1-1.
Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi will continue to trust Martinez. The Spaniard will be in the lineup, with Yann Sommer on the bench.

The starts in the Coppa Italia have been important opportunities for Josep Martinez.
So far, they’ve made up the lion’s share of the 26-year-old’s appearances for Inter.
Martinez joined Inter from Genoa last summer.
And it was always clear what the Nerazzurri’s intentions were in signing Martinez. The Spanish international is the player who they want to be the long-term heir to Yann Sommer in goal.
However, Sommer isn’t ready to give up his starting spot just yet. The veteran former Bayern Munich and Borussia Monchengladbach keeper has been in strong form this season.
Therefore, Martinez has had to wait patiently. He knows that if he proves himself, he will dislodge Sommer sooner or later – maybe starting next season.
Martinez already proved that he is a fine understudy for Sommer with a series of impressive displays in the spring while Sommer was recovering from thumb surgery.
And the former Genoa keeper can really prove his worth in the run-in.
Inter are relying on Martinez to keep their hopes of winning the Coppa Italia alive.
And if the Nerazzurri do reach the final, then there is little doubt that Martinez will be the player starting in.
That would represent a massive opportunity for the 26-year-old.
