Inter Milan midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan will miss his team’s Serie A clash with Venezia this weekend, with Piotr Zielinski to start.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They note that Mkhitaryan’s injury will force Simone Inzaghi to name an entirely new midfield trio.
Inter were already dealing with one notable injury in midfield. Hakan Calhanoglu picked up a thigh strain in the Supercoppa Italiana final against AC Milan.
Therefore, the Turk won’t be back until Wednesday’s match against Bologna.
But Calhanoglu won’t be the only absentee in midfield.
35-year-old former Arsenal and Roma midfielder Mkhitaryan has also picked up a muscle problem.
The Armenian could undergo tests with the Inter medical staff tomorrow.
But one thing that’s certain is that Mkhitaryan won’t be available against Venezia.
That means that Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will have to do without one of his stalwarts.
In place of Mkhitaryan, the Nerazzurri coach will give the nod to Piotr Zielinski, reports the Gazzetta.
The Pole will line up alongside Nicolo Barella and Kristjan Asllani. The latter starts in place of Calhanoglu.
And as the Gazzetta note, that midfield trio has never started for Inter before.
