Everton are interested in Villarreal striker Thierno Barry. According to The Times, the Merseyside club has intensified its pursuit of his signature.

The France international is reportedly ‘a leading target for Everton manager David Moyes’, who is keen on reinforcing his squad this summer.

However, the Toffees will be looking to negotiate his release clause of €40 million (£34 million) down to fit their budget.

Barry put European clubs, including Everton, on alert. He netted 11 goals and four assists in 35 La Liga appearances last term.

Barry helped the club secure a slot in the UEFA Champions League next season and earned praise from his manager, Marcelino Toral, along the way.

Before moving to Villarreal in August 2024, Barry made 38 league appearances at Basel, scoring 14 goals and providing five assists.

Barry recorded 12.52xG and underperformed by -1.52. His numbers could translate to the Premier League.

His height (6ft4ins) will also be a weapon for Moyes, who is no stranger to going direct.

Everton are preparing for the departure of Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The England international is set to leave the club on a free transfer this summer.

They need a replacement, and their radar has landed on the Villarreal ace.

Barry would provide competition for Beto, who bagged 12 goals last season and became a mainstay under Moyes. The 22-year-old is an exciting option.

A viable, cheaper alternative to Barry – View

Barry could prove too expensive for Everton if Villarreal insist on his release clause. He might also decide to stay and play in the Champions League.

Everton must have an alternative, and in our opinion, the Toffees should consider Wycombe Wanderers ace Richard Kone.

The 21-year-old finished the 2024/25 campaign with 21 goals in 50 games across all competitions as Wycombe Wanderers reached the League One play-offs.

Charlton Athletic beat the Chairboys, but Kone’s performance in the second leg at the Valley caught the eye. He would be a cheaper punt than Barry.
