Everton are among the Premier League clubs reportedly in the race for Benfica holding midfielder Florentino Luis this summer, per Record.
The Toffees likely see the Portuguese midfielder as a long-term replacement for stalwart Idrissa Gana Gueye.
Luis is a force of nature that breaks up opposition attacks for fun, using his boundless energy to shield the backline.
His positioning is brilliant, and so is his ability to read the game several seconds ahead. He can recover possession cleanly and efficiently.
Luis excels in covering space, screening the back line, and closing passing lanes with minimal need for physical contact.
He relies instead on his timing, footwork, and awareness. Everton could use his services.
However, the Merseyside outfit is not alone in the race for his signature.
Crystal Palace and Leeds United have also shown interest, but all remain wary of the €25 million asking price.
Benfica are not pushing to sell Luis despite adding Richard Rios and Enzo Barrenechea to the ranks. They can keep all three.
If the Toffees can get their hands on him, Luis would be quite the pick-up for Everton. He is a quality holding midfielder.
The 25-year-old has been tipped to become one of the best in the world in his position.
Even though injuries, neglectful coaches, and poor loan moves slowed his trajectory, he is back on track.
At €25 million, he is an affordable signing for Everton.
Manager David Moyes has been clamouring for new additions, and acquiring the Benfica star will help assuage the Scotsman’s frustrations.
The Everton engine room will be stronger if they bring in Luis and other midfield target Douglas Luiz this summer. The flanks are also crying out for new wingers.
