Everton are one of the clubs interested in signing Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz as the Toffees look to bolster their engine room ahead of next season.
According to Tuttosport (via Ilbianconero), “Everton have also been enquiring about the former Aston Villa player in the last few hours.”
Abdoulaye Doucoure left Everton this summer following the expiry of his contract, and the Toffees need a replacement for the Malian.
Luiz fits the bill. The former Aston Villa and Manchester City ace is a Premier League-proven box-to-box midfielder who can fill the Doucoure role seamlessly.
He would be a brilliant pick-up for Everton.
Luiz joined Juventus last summer but has struggled to acclimatise to Italian football and could leave the Allianz Stadium this window.
Everton could be his next stomping ground if the club moves fast enough.
West Ham United are also after his signature. They submitted a €10 million loan offer with an option to buy for around €30 million.
The Hammers desperately need midfield reinforcement, and with the windfall from the Mohammed Kudus sale burning a hole in their pocket, they have made a bid.
However, Juventus are seeking an obligation to buy or a permanent purchase, and do not want Luiz to return.
Everton should do everything within their powers to get their hands on Luiz.
He was phenomenal for the Villains, bagging nine goals and creating 10 big chances in his final Premier League campaign.
The 27-year-old is a fantastic two-way option, winning 57% of his aerial and 50% of his ground duels last season, recovering the ball 5.3 times per 90.
Luiz would be a brilliant weapon for David Moyes as the club bids for a sensational debut campaign at the Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium next term under new ownership.
The Toffees will be eyeing a top-half finish after seasons of flirting with relegation, and Luiz, whom former manager Unai Emery hailed as ‘a leader on the pitch’, could be key.
