The brass at Espanyol have earmarked a member of the goalkeeper ranks at La Liga rivals RCD Mallorca as a summer transfer target.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, citing Futbol desde Mallorca, who point towards Leo Román as the player in question.

Espanyol are of course on the lookout for reinforcements between the posts with a view to next season.

This comes with star no.1 Joan García all set for a move across Catalunya, to Hansi Flick’s Barcelona.

A search for the 24-year-old’s replacement has in turn long been kicked into gear, with a shortlist of targets drawn up.

And the name of the aforementioned Román, it is understood, has been circled in red by those behind the scenes at the RCDE Stadium.

As per a report from MD:

‘According to Tomeu Maura, a leading journalist on the current affairs of Mallorca, Espanyol have a firm interest in Leo and are preparing an official offer for the Ibizan goalkeeper.’

Román for his part managed just seven La Liga appearances this past season, but turned heads with dazzling performances against the likes of Sevilla, Barcelona and Real Madrid.
