A win for the home side would see them pull five points clear of Newcastle.

However, an away victory would see Eddie Howe’s team go above Chelsea.

“It’s very clear Newcastle are physically strong, very good.

“They have been a bit unlucky, especially against Brighton.

“Overall, they deserve more points.

“The way that they work for many years together, it is clear.”

Enzo Maresca on his Chelsea players:

“I can see not only on the pitch but also when we have team meetings with video clips, you can see that sometimes the players start to recognise for themselves solutions.

“For me as head coach, it is one of the best moments because you can see they are learning and they are very grateful for that.

“We try to adjust things at half-time because when you are with the same players or the same team for two or three years, then you can even adjust things after ten minutes of the first half, but when it is a new process, it is very difficult, so you need the ten to 15 minutes of half time to adjust the things you are seeing things which are not working very well, so we try to do that at half-time.”

Enzo Maresca changed his entire team on Thursday night for the Conference League match, the likes of Wesley Fofana, Romeo Lavia, Cole Palmer, Reece James, Malo Gusto, Levi Colwill, Moises Caicedo and Nicolas Jackson not even travelling. The Chelsea boss asked if any injury issues with those who didn’t go to Greece?:

“They are all ok.”

Enzo Maresca asked specifically about the fitness of returning from injury Reece James and Romeo Lavia:

“They were very happy about the minutes they got [against Liverpool] and the performance.

“They finished very well, without injury, that is the most important thing. But at the same time, they were not happy because we lost the game.

“As I’ve said, the reason they were not in the squad [in Greece], Romeo, Wes and even Reece, is at this moment they can’t play two games a week. So the idea is to use them once a week

“I’ve spoken with Reece many, many times, he’s the one I speak most with since we started. Before the injury and now again.

“Sometimes, and we talk about Reece because he is our player, clubs have some players who get injury after injury and so we need to find the right solution for him and to try to help him.

“Probably at this moment, the solution could be we use him once a week. We would like to use him every day because he’s a fantastic player but we need to adapt.”
