England continue their defence of the u-21 European Championship against Slovenia this evening.
The Young Lions kickstarted the 2025 tournament with a 3-1 win over Czechia in their opener. Harvey Elliott opened the scoring for England, with further goals from Jonathan Rowe and Charlie Cresswell sealing a comfortable win.
A win on Sunday will all-but secure England’s place in the knockout rounds, against a Slovenia side who lost their opener to Germany. The holders trail the Germans on goal difference in the group.
Lee Carsley opted against using a recognised forward in the first fixture, with captain James McAtee utilised as a false nine. The decision came in Liam Delap’s absence, with the forward with new club Chelsea at the FIFA Club World Cup.
Jobe Bellingham also withdrew from the squad to compete at that tournament and was replaced by West Bromwich Albion winger Tom Fellows in the squad.
Carsley have now new injury concerns and could name an unchanged side.
England predicted XI: Beadle; Gray, Cresswell, Quansah, Livramento; Scott, Anderson; Elliott, McAtee, Hutchinson; Rowe.
England face Slovenia in the u-21 European Championship on Sunday 15th June 2025. Kick-off in the group stage fixture is 5pm BST.
