Emre Can was critical of Borussia Dortmund’s second half performance against Lille in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 at the Westfalenstadion on Tuesday night.
Karim Adeyemi opened the scoring for Die Schwarzgelben midway through the first half as the Bundesliga side controlled the game, but the second half was a different story. Stray passes and minimal pressing, BVB allowed Lille into the game, who equalised through Hákon Arnar Haraldsson.
Speaking after the game, Can analysed Borussia Dortmund’s performance – via Ruhr Nachrichten.
“The second half was not good at all. We were too passive, we didn’t go anywhere it hurts. We have to be honest, it wasn’t a good game, there was too little intensity against the ball. We had too few periods of possession, we definitely have to play better and be braver. We can definitely do better. It won’t be easy in Lille. Nevertheless, we are going to France with our heads held high.”
In the end, Lille trumped Borussia Dortmund in possession (43-57), shots (7-9), big chances (0-1) and accurate passes (339-493). BVB completed just 79 percent of their passes, per FotMob. Serhou Guirassy – Dortmund’s top scorer this season – also failed to gain a foothold in the game, registering just 24 touches of the ball.
