Star striker Liam Delap has sealed a move to Chelsea, while Kalvin Phillips has returned to parent club Manchester City at the end of his loan spell and fellow midfielder Massimo Luongo has exited.

That has left two obvious holes for McKenna and his backroom staff to fill this summer - in the centre of the park and in the forward line.

So, Football League World explores what a dream July might look like for Ipswich Town in terms of new recruits.

Emmanuel Latte Lath - Atlanta United

First up is a player who has been linked to Ipswich for some time.

Reports surfaced at the start of June that McKenna's team were interested in sealing a return to England for Emmanuel Latte Lath, who shifted to Major League Soccer (MLS) in February.

That was a league-record deal which saw Atlanta United splash out £22.5m on the Middlesbrough striker, after impressing in the Championship with the Teessiders since his arrival in the summer of 2023.

However, Town also made a real push to sign the then-Boro centre-forward on transfer deadline day in last summer's transfer window, with a bid tabled that was reportedly worth around £20m.

The striker was understood to have wanted the move, and was initially told to stay at home ahead of Boro's trip to Cardiff the next day, after it was said he was frustrated at not being granted a move to Portman Road.

The Tractor Boys are now keen to secure a worthy replacement for Delap, and in the former Middlesbrough man, Latte Lath, they could manage just that.

The Ivory Coast international's impressive record in the English second-tier makes him a fantastic candidate to fill the big shoes left by Delap among the Ipswich front-line.

And, while George Hirst may provide cover for the central position in a more balanced, well-rounded attacking frontier at Portman Road, Latte Lath would add the quality needed to help propel the club back into the Premier League.

Alex Robertson - Cardiff City

The centre of the pitch is the other key area of improvement for Ipswich through July, as they look to build a team that can challenge at the top of the Championship once again.

Phillips and Luongo will likely be difficult to replace quickly, but in Alex Robertson there is a surefire candidate to slot seemingly into the Town midfield.

Cardiff City’s Australian international has caught the eye of a vast array of clubs according to reports from Portsmouth-based outlet The News.

They reported as many as a dozen clubs in the Championship have registered their interest, with MLS and European sides also circling the waters.

The report also noted that one of the relegated sides entering the Championship were interested, which could indicate Ipswich are a potential landing point for the midfielder due to their need to strengthen in the area.

Robertson would be a superb signing for Town, after a stunning campaign with the relegated Cardiff that saw him show an eye for an attacking movement as well as a crisp pass.

However, they will surely have plenty of competition if they did try to sign the former Manchester City youth starlet.

Hamza Choudhury - Leicester City

Finally, another midfielder the Tractor Boys could look to poach is Leicester City’s Hamza Choudhry.

The English-born Bangladesh international was loaned out to Sheffield United last term, and was part of the side that narrowly missed out on promotion due to play-off final defeat against Sunderland.

The 27-year-old is one appearance shy of a century of games in the Championship, and while he has two seasons left on his deal at the King Power Stadium, has fallen out of favour.

The Foxes may be reluctant to sell a player to a team that will likely be a promotion rival, but Choudhury will surely be keen to secure more gametime and that is something Ipswich are more likely to be able to offer with their holes in the centre of midfield.

He has also showcased the ability to step into a defensive role if required, having played a number of games for Sheffield United at right-back last season.
