Ella Toone looking to grow up ahead of 2025/26 campaign with Manchester United
Ella Toone was crowned Euros champion for a second time this summer and ahead of her return to Manchester United, the 25-year-old is looking to grow up.
The Lioness revealed that she lost her grandma on the day England won the Euros this summer which has given Toone a rude awakening.
Ella Toone played an influential role in Manchester United winning the FA Cup last season.
After winning her first domestic trophy, Toone is ready to take on a leadership role with the Red Devils.
“I feel like I need to start growing up a little more. Yeah, I still see myself as a younger player, but that’s not the case any more.” Toone said.
“I’m turning 26 in September and I feel like I’ve got a lot of experience within the England team and at United as well.”
In summer Toone was crowned European champion with England for the second time in her career.
The 25-year-old seems keen to use her experience on the international stage to lead United ahead of another gruelling season.
“I think it’s about using my experiences now and really stepping up and becoming a leader and helping the younger players come into the game, come into the teams, using what I’ve learned from different tournaments and different games as best I can now.”
Part of Toone playing a leadership role in the new campaign is helping integrate new players into the United setup this season.
The Reds have signed highly rated Swedish duo Julia Zigiotti Olme and Fridolina Rolfo this summer.
“I think both of them fit really well into what we needed and, maybe last season, what we were lacking.”
Last year United finished third in the WSL, 16 points behind Chelsea who were crowned champions for a sixth consecutive season.
Toone concluded, “I’ve definitely learned that being away with England, everything’s not always pretty and not how you want it to go, but it’s about finding that team togetherness, resilience and finding a way to win.”
The midfielder scored five league goals last year and even earned United’s goal of the season award.
Manchester United face PSV in their first Champions League qualifier on Wednesday night.
The Red Devils kick off their WSL campaign with a clash against Leicester City on Sunday, September 7th.
