It has been a testing season for Eliesse Ben Seghir (20). Having broken through during 2022/23 season under Philippe Clement, the 2023/24 season was curtailed by injury. This campaign has been his first in the first-team picture throughout, however, the Morocco international has struggled for gametime.
Whilst Ben Seghir has played some part in 30 of Monaco’s 31 Ligue 1 games this season, he has often been used as a substitute in recent times. His lack of game time, and in particular, the decision not to play him at all against OGC Nice last month, is the source of frustration for the forward, who doesn’t feel sufficiently “considered” by his manager, Adi Hütter, according to L’Équipe.
Ben Seghir’s decision not to celebrate the Côte d’Azur derby win with the home fans at the Stade Louis II has been criticised internally, and with the player struggling for form, he is no longer considered indispensable by Monaco. At least for the Moroccan, the question of his future with his formative club is being asked, as per L’Équipe.
In recent months, Liverpool, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, and Bayer Leverkusen have all made enquiries. The plan for Monaco was not to sell Ben Seghir this summer with Maghnes Akliouche instead expected to leave, however, an exit cannot be ruled out for the forward, whose contract runs until 2030 and whose value is currently estimated around €30m.
