Very amusing what Dwight Yorke has been saying about Arsenal and Alexander Isak.
I do totally agree with him that Arsenal were ‘ridiculous’ in not trying to sign the now Newcastle United striker back in August 2022.
However, it then all gets a bit laughable.
Dwight Yorke says that ‘If Arsenal want to win the Premier League title, they should go to Newcastle and bang £100 million on the table for Isak as soon as the January transfer window opens.’
This has absolutely no relation to the reality.
Would £100m be the first payment on account for Alexander Isak?
Dwight Yorke, Arsenal fans, Arsenal pundits, Arsenal-friendly media, none of them want to accept the reality. Arsenal can’t afford Alexander Isak and indeed, what exactly can they offer him?
More to the point, why on earth would Newcastle United consider selling their best goalscorer and best player, especially for only a £37m profit? Plus with over three and a half years left on his contract, they are under zero pressure on that front.
Eddie Howe and Newcastle United backed their judgement on signing a then 22 year old Alexander Isak for £63m (£59m plus £4m future add-ons) when he’d done pretty well in the weaker La Liga.
Now he has become a stunning player and goalscorer, starting 59 Premier League games and scoring 41 PL goals, yet Dwight Yorke and Arsenal fans think £37m covers the improvement these past two and a half years???
Indeed, you get some way out Arsenal fans and pundits who will talk about signing Alexander Isak for £70m or £80m.
When you consider Arsenal paid £105m for midfield workhorse Declan Rice, whilst Chelsea paid even more for both Fernandez and Caicedo – two midfielders who score and create very few goals, how exactly do they think the Gunners could get the best striker (in my opinion) in the Premier League, maybe the world, for less money???
Dwight Yorke says that if Arsenal want to win the Premier League they must sign Alexander Isak.
Well, if Newcastle United want to have any chance of winning their first trophy in 56 years, they have to keep Alexander Isak! The same if we have any aspirations of getting back into the Champions League via the Premier League this season.
It is all hypothetical because I don’t see any way Newcastle United would entertain any bid for their star striker. However, if you you were putting a valuation on Alexander Isak, then surely it would be £150m+.
Dwight Yorke speaking to Sports Lens about Alexander Isak an Arsenal (and Newcastle United…):
“Everyone keeps banging on about Arsenal missing a number nine and I do think there’s something to it.
“You watch their games, the last two, they’ve been so dominant and haven’t been able to win the games. Let’s have it right, they’ve dropped four vital points in their two last Premier League fixtures against Everton and Fulham. They’re missing something.
“I can’t understand why Arsenal hesitated when they had the opportunity to sign Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad.
“They sat on their hands and Newcastle swooped in and took him.
“That was ridiculous.
“If Arsenal want to win the Premier League title, they should go to Newcastle and bang £100 million on the table for Isak as soon as the January transfer window opens.
“I think the kid looks really good whenever I see him play.
