Inter full-back Denzel Dumfries admits he wants more playing time under Simone Inzaghi but still hopes to sign a contract extension soon.

The Dutch defender spoke at a press conference ahead of the Netherlands’ Nations League game against Hungary.

Several sources in Italy claim the Dutch right-back has agreed to extend his contract at the Stadio Meazza beyond 2025.

“I hope the Inter renewal will be completed as soon as possible. It seems like a good deal, and I hope to sign it soon,” Dumfries said, as quoted by SOS Fanta.

“I haven’t played much, so I haven’t extended yet. Obviously, I want to play more, and I am focused on getting more playing time. Luckily, I played a bit more recently, but Darmian is a tough competitor in that role.”

His Netherlands side visit Hungary at the Puskás Aréna Park in Budapest this evening.

The 28-year-old has one goal in seven appearances with the Nerazzurri this term but has only collected 266 minutes on the pitch.

Dumfries only started two games this season, one in Serie A and one in the Champions League, and spent two league matches entirely on the bench.

He joined the Nerazzurri from PSV Eindhoven for €14.2m in the summer of 2021. He has scored 11 goals and provided 17 assists in 103 Serie A games with Inter, winning one Scudetto, two Coppa Italia and three Supercups.
