Dominik Szoboszlai has fulfilled a promise he made to his girlfriend before Liverpool’s 3-1 win against AC Milan at San Siro last night.

The Reds bounced back from their shock loss on Saturday at home to Nottingham Forest, courtesy of first half headers from Ibrahima Konaté and Virgil van Dijk, before the Hungarian midfielder sealed the win with a second half strike after some great work from Cody Gakpo.

Szoboszlai struggled to impose himself in the early exchanges, however looked a different player once Liverpool scored, with his boundless energy, now partnered with a more effective final ball. His goal was the cherry on top of an impressive second half, in which he showed why the manager had retained faith in him, with Alan Shearer saying he was "the pick of the bunch."

Szoboszlai’s promise to his girlfriend

Szoboszlai’s girlfriend is Hungarian influencer, Borka Buzsik, with the pair going public with their relationship in July after Hungary’s exit from the Euros in the group stages.

Buzsik was in the stands at San Siro last night and took to social media after the game to share a message on her Instagram story.

The story was a picture of the scoreboard reading 1-3, in which she tagged Szoboszlai and added the message: “As you promised ❤️❤️❤️🤞🏻”, with Liverpool’s midfielder likely promising to score with his partner in attendance.

Arne Slot's Szoboszlai verdict

Arne Slot spoke about Szoboszlai prior to the Milan game, challenging the midfielder to increase his numbers this season, with the Hungarian taking a more advanced role so far under the new coach.

Slot said: “He has been important for us and his pressing has been outstanding.

"Something we have to work on is making him even more involved in scoring goals. He scored three last season but for an attacking midfielder at Liverpool, his numbers need to go up. I am confident with the quality he has and the players around him he will score more goals as well."

Szoboszlai's goal vs AC Milan was the Hungarian's first competitive Liverpool goal since March and it will have delighted both his girlfriend and his boss.
