The Eagles have three days to find the right balance for the final-day trip to Freiburg, but they appear to have made good progress in training on Wednesday.
There was plenty to take away from Eintracht’s 2-2 draw at home to FC St. Pauli on Sunday evening. “The lesson has to be that you need alertness, sharpness and focus, but you also need to be relaxed,” reflected head coach Dino Toppmöller, whose sentiments were echoed by sporting director Timmo Hardung: “To score goals, you need to be relaxed and enjoy yourselves. The foundation is intensity, but you also need finesse, self-belief and a relaxed attitude to create chances and score goals. For the Freiburg game, it’s very important to get that balance right in training.”
To that end, Toppmöller put his squad through a variety of finishing drills on Wednesday morning. The players also performed one or two rondos before turning their attention back to one-v-one situations.
There seems little doubt that Eintracht are going on the attack ahead of the final game of the season as they try to find the right combination of determination and composure. After all, some members of the Eagles squad would give anything to get their first taste of Champions League football next season.
