This is what Aston Villa fans will enjoy getting used to. The thrill and build-up of being in moments with a lot of pressure and high stakes on a weekly basis. PSG at Villa Park was an amazing atmosphere. Dismantling Newcastle was a much-needed energy boost after getting kicked out of Champions League. Now, for this week, Villa has two further important tests as the 2024-2025 season comes to a close.
Unai Emery will take his men to the Etihad on Tuesday. Manchester City may not be the prime Pep Guardiola side, but they have the talent that can pose problems and score goals at any time. Then the Villans will travel to Wembley and take on Crystal Palace.
It has gotten to the point where seemingly each fixture includes the phrase 'most important' or some version of each game being 'huge for the club.' While some slight exaggeration may be at play there, on a case-by-case basis, these sentiments are true. It's something of a self-fulfilling prophecy.
As long as AVFC keeps winning, they'll continue to play in games with consequences. A victory on Saturday means advancing to the FA Cup Final and the chance to win silverware. Three points on Tuesday will mean continued good form in the Premier League and positioning the club to qualify for the CL next season.
It's an exciting time for the club. Not only is there a legitimate chance to win a trophy, but Emery's side is playing very well at the moment. Even though it resulted in an aggregate defeat, Villa won the second leg against the Ligue 1 side. In a thrilling effort, they nearly completed a comeback and stayed in the top European competition. Or, they at least almost went into extra time.
Newcastle had been high-flying and looking extraordinary, but they too found out that coming to Villa Park is unlike any other home advantage for the hosts. Now faced with needing to replicate the good run of play away from Birmingham, Emery has his latest challenge to face.
It's safe to say, though, between the Spaniard's tactics and the 'starting 22,' Aston Villa getting three points off Manchester City is highly doable. Even if they fall behind early, this team has the character and strength to make it a fight until the end.
