De Telegraaf are reporting that Derby County are set to beat several sides to the signing of Kenzo Goudmijn from AZ Alkmaar. The 22-year-old midfielder had almost every side in the Eredivisie chasing after him, but the former Netherlands youth international has opted for a move to the Championship. Derby County are set to pay around €800,000 for the youngster.

Kenzo Goudmijn has been on the books at AZ Alkmaar for his entire career but spent last season on loan at Excelsior Rotterdam. Goudmijn registered five goal contributions in 23 appearances as Excelsior were relegated to the second tier. At AZ, he’s featured 20 times for the first team, starting just three of those games. Now the speedy, agile, attacking-minded midfielder will have the chance to shine in the Championship. He’ll sign a four-year deal with Derby.

Heerenveen, FC Groningen and Go Ahead Eagles all held talks with Kenzo Goudmijn, and with Robin van Persie taking over as head coach of Heerenveen, that seemed liked the most likely destination. Instead he’s heading for an adventure abroad and he will certainly be a player to keep an eye on next season.
