Celtic’s demotion to the Europa League will make manager Brendan Rodgers’ exit from the Parkhead club much easier if Nottingham Forest push to hire him, according to the Sun.
They failed to secure a place in the league phase of the Champions League after losing 3-2 on penalties to Kazakhstan Premier League club FC Kairat last night.
Both legs of their Champions League play-offs ended goalless, and the Hoops will now settle for a place in the league phase of the Europa League.
The development is good news for Forest as the Premier League club still have the Celtic boss on their radar if Nuno Espirito Santo is sacked.
Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis admires Rodgers and would love to bring him to the City Ground.
The club also have Marco Silva, Ange Postecoglou and Jose Mourinho on their radar if Nuno is sacked, but Rodgers is the clear front-runner.
He left Celtic to join Leicester City in 2019, but he has insisted that he has no plans to walk away.
However, the Hoops have frustrated him with their lack of quality recruitment this summer.
Rodgers has been calling for a new striker, and signing one could have helped them book a place in the Champions League.
Forest could look to lure him back to the Premier League with the promise of providing him with quality additions.
The former Liverpool boss will feel he has unfinished business in the English top flight, having narrowly missed out on winning the title.
