Man United boss Erik ten Hag has vowed to “keep fighting” after his side were “hammered” by Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday night.

Michael Olise opened the scoring after 11 minutes before Jean-Philippe Mateta doubled the host’s lead just before halftime.

A shambolic defensive performance continued in the second half, as Tyrick Mitchell grabbed the Eagles’ third, followed shortly thereafter by another goal from Olise.

“It’s clear, it’s obvious, this is underperforming,” Ten Hag admitted to Sky Sports. “We didn’t act how we wanted to and it’s not good enough. We are very disappointed.

“Our fans were behind us and we should have kept fighting like the fans did.

“There are always reasons, everyone sees our backline – we have huge problems. At the end of the day, we have to deal with it and we should have done better.”

The defeat is Man United‘s 13th in the Premier League this season, the most the club have suffered in a single campaign, but Ten Hag still backs himself to turn things around at Old Trafford.

“I will keep fighting,” the Dutchman said. “I prepared the team in the best way I could do. It was not good enough, I have to take responsibility for that but I will find energy and prepare them for Sunday’s game.”

Asked if he believes he is the right man for the Man United job, Ten Hag answered: “Absolutely. If the right players are available, we have a good squad. We miss almost the whole backline and then we have problems.”

The Red Devils, who sit eighth in the Premier League table, face Arsenal at home this sunday before hosting Newcastle United next Wednesday.
